The object could not be modified because it or one of its...

Post by Richard_AU » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:22 pm

I am getting this message from Vault when trying to pin a folder
"The object could not be modified because it or one of its children is checked out"
But no object is checked out. I checked on Vault client and I checked on Vault admin and in both cases I cannot see any object checked out.
I reset the Vault client cache and restarted IIS still cannot pin the folder
Vault version is 4.0.4

Any ideas?

Is there any additional information in the Vault Server log -- it's sgvault.log in %windir%\temp\sgvault.

Just that Vault could not pin the folder -

(9371b4c2-ea52-42a3-a121-82683b3c2385) BeginTx returned: FailObjectCheckedOut
(9371b4c2-ea52-42a3-a121-82683b3c2385) Pin: $/CLD/BRANCHES/CMS/PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION_2007-2008_V-2.0 returned: FailObjectCheckedOut

What if you right-click on the folder -- is undocheckout enabled? If so, can you undo checkout?

The 'Undo checkout' is grayed out.

Do other users see this same behavior on other client machines?

Cannot pin folder

Post by Richard_AU » Thu Aug 30, 2007 5:50 pm

Other clients could see the 'Undo checkout' and could pin the folder.
The folder is now pinned but I am still puzzled as to why I could not pin this folder from my client

Where do things stand now? Is the problem resolved?

cannot pin folder

Post by Richard_AU » Sun Sep 02, 2007 5:22 pm

yes the problem is resolved. Another developer needed to pin that folder I could not do this from my client.
Any idea why my client could not pin this folder or why the 'undo checkout' was not available from my client?

It's possible there was still something out of sync with your client-side cache even though you resest it. If you reset it through the Vault GUI Client options, then it may not have deleted the cached checkout list.

For details about the client-side cache, see this:
