Check in failure

After checking a file in and out a few times using Vault Client, I'd get this error from trying to check a file in:

"Item $/DAL/Program.cs caused the transaction to fail: An item with the same name or object id already exists in the selected folder"

At this point the only way to get rid of it is to delete the file and re-add it to the project. This happens very frequently. I'm just using the checkin and checkout in the most straightforward way possible. No branching, labeling, or sharing.

The server is 3.1.8 and the error occurs with both Vault Client 3.1.8 and 3.1.9 .

Please tell me what this error message means and how to get rid of it.

It's possible your client-side cache file is out of sync and needs to be reset:

Or you could have orphaned transactions in the pending change set:
