Check-In vs Check-In-Now (recursive)

Post by kmh72756 » Wed Dec 20, 2006 9:21 am

We have never noticed this before.

Check-In
vs
Check-In-Now (recursive)

What is the difference? What does it mean?

We had recently been getting some connection errors while checking in solutions but, as advertised, it never left the vault in a strange or incomplete state.

What does Now do differently?
How can a check-in be recursive? i.e. call itself?

I'm not sure where you are seeing "check-in-now". Can you describe it further or provide a screen shot?

The definition of recursive is a little different in this case. Recursive here means the items residing beneath what you've selected.

Have you compared how the options are set between the two Visual Studio clients?

difference was in options

the Don't show Check-In Dialog option was different

I guess that means the menu item is changing but doesn't
really indicate any difference between Now and not Now

If the one that doesn't display the dialog says Now and the one that does has ..., then it seems to me that this is a clue as to whether this action is going to happen immediately, or if you have to go through another dialog first. If you want the dialog to appear, but it says Now, then you need to do something special to make the dialog appear.

Ok, I think I see now what could be happening. When one goes into the VS-Tools-Options-Source Control-Environment and changes the option for Don't Show Check-In Dialog Box, one way shows an ... next to the Check-in and then the dialog box pops up, and when it's checked to not show that, you get the Check-In Now Option.
