Newbie questions on Vault install

Post by BBM » Sun Jul 30, 2006 2:21 pm

Hi,

I'm preparing to install Vault. The machine I'm installing on is a Windows 2003 Server SP 1 machine, configured as a Domain Controller, and it's running IIS 6.0. SQL Server (2005) is installed on the same machine and uses Windows Authentication.

I'd prefer to do this install once the right way so please tolerate my DA questions:

1. Do I need to set up the "weak account" as it is described in the FAQ entry titled "Running Vault service on a domain controller"? The FAQ entry references IIS 5.0.

2. If I don't set up the "weak account" then what account should have access to the Vault virtual directory? In attempting to follow the installation guide, the bulleted entry for IIS 6.0 references something called the "Internet Information Administrator". I don't know what this is. If you meant the IIS Manager then under this application is an entry called "Application Pools" (note plural), but this entry doesn't have anything under it that refers to a "process model". So I'm completely confused here.

3. I've installed the .Net Framework 2.0 on the server, but an entry for it doesn't appear when I select "Manage the application Server" from the "Manage Your Server" application. I have three entries on the left hand side of the "tree".
1) .Net Configuration 1.1
2) IIS Manager
3) Component Services

Should I have an entry for .Net 2.0 Configuration here?

Thanks for your help.

Try installing Vault without any additional configuration, using NT Authority\Network Service.

The documentation primarily applies to earlier versions of Vault. In later versions, the installer did a better job of giving the proper permissions needed for Vault to run properly.
