Names.dat file corrupt

Hello,

One particular database we have is currently experiencing an issue when connected via SOS. Users cannot browse a particular directory - failed with the error: "Updating file list...." and "Operation Failed...". This directory can be viewed using VSS 6.

I have checked the log file on the SOS server and there is an entry associated with accessing this directory:

06/06/2006 14:59:56 - 16: File names.dat may be corrupt (8004d698)

I restored the names.dat file to 2nd May (the last working version for this particluar directory that can't be viewed). But then all other directories are not browsable.

I have since restored the newest version of names.dat and can browse everything in VSS. SOS is still causing problems with this directory. Please help, this is very urgent.

The first thing I would suggest is to run Analyze on the VSS database:
