We imported VSS data into vault, apparently successfully (I was not involved in the import directly).
During the import we pruned the set of labels way down, since our build system applies a label on every successful build. We now have only a few dozen labels.
However, I am trying to write instructions on how to do branching, and I have discovered that all the imported labels show that they have been promoted, usually hundreds of time. Labels applied since the import don't show any promotions.
Since the labels have been promoted, we can no longer branch from the labels.
We are using version 3.1.6.3658. Is the label promotion a bug in the import, or just something we have to live with. Is there any workaround that would let us perform a branch from a promoted label (or a way to locate the precise revision number to branch on?).
Thanks

Imported labels show as promoted?

It's not possible to branch from an imported label because of what we have to do to recreate the label -- and label promotion is part of that. A good discussion of a similar issue here:

If you do Show History and select View Folder History by Version, you should be able to find the version of the folder that corresponds most closely to the date of the label. Then you can branch from that folder version.
