IDE Integration in 4.0

Vault 4.0 will include an all new Visual Studio integration client for use with Visual Studio 2005.
We get it. A lot of our attention right now is being spent trying to make sure that people can enjoyably use Vault in the IDE they prefer.

And by the way, once we get the new Visual Studio integration client working, I will be using it.
Does this, by any chance, mean that VS2005 has stopped trying to cram down our throats its idea of how files must be organized or located with respect to the projects and/or solutions? That's the main reason that we don't use IDE integration.

It is unclear at this point what the limitations are going to be. VS forces this for its MSSCCI interface, but we haven't gotten far enough into the new APIs to know whether this is still enforced for the new APIs.

Support for Web Deployment Projects and Web App projects?

Post by zumafan » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:36 am

Just wanted to find out if the new Vault IDE integration client will support both of these new project models in VS2005?

The new IDE integrated client is still very early in development, so there's a good chance I won't be able to answer anyway, but nevertheless:

When you say "both of these new project models" what are you referring to?

Sorry, I'm talking about the Web Application Projects and the Web Deployment projects. The addons built by Scott Guthrie and the ASP.NET team and shipped after the fact, because the new website "solutions" in VS2005 suck big time.

Web App Projects: http://webproject.scottgu.com/

Web Deployment Projects: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/ ... 30283.aspx

Ah, I get it now.

It's too soon to to say for sure, but I'm interested to hear that some folks consider the new way sucky. :) I'll keep that in mind as we figure it out.
