OK to use 3.x client with 2.x server?

Post by ancap » Wed Feb 01, 2006 10:50 am

My coworkers and I have been relatively happy customers of Vault 2.x for a couple years now. There are a few items which annoy us though, primarily about the IDE, which we'd like to see changed, eg:

- the 'Server connection lost' dialog and delay in reconnecting on the first operation after each time IIS or ASP worker recycles
- checking in mix of edited and unedited files keeps the unedited ones checked out
- no 'keep checked out' when first adding files
- diff window doesn't save new size settings

We've been on 2.0.6 for quite a while, and it appears there is no hope of these being fixed in 2.x. It sounds like at least a couple have been addressed in the 3.x IDE. However, a ~$600 upgrade to address just those kind of issues hasn't seemed compelling.

Should it be:
1) technically possible for us to use the 3.x client IDE with our existing 2.x server?
2) valid license-wise for us to do so?

Thanks-

Aaron

Sorry, 3.x and 2.x clients/servers are not compatible with each other. And, yes, it looks like a lot of those have been addressed in 3.x.

I honestly don't know whether it violates the license, but I guess it's a moot point, since it isn't possible to do.
