DVD or CD of working folders rather then GetLatestVersion

Post by MikeFischer » Wed Nov 09, 2005 2:04 pm

My vault has a few VERY large folders in it (i.e 2 GBs) doing a GetLatestVersion on these can be exceedly time consuming to download, especially during the initial download for remote users.

The files in these folder is relatively static once created, so I'm wondering, is there a way to "fool" the VaultClient into knowing that the files it has locally are the same as the remote version?

I.E. I'm thinking of burning a DVD to send to the remote users, have them copy the working folders contents from the DVD, then connect up to the Vault, and the vault can see that the files are there and don't need to be downloaded.

Does this make sense?

Any suggestions on it?

Vault creates a cache of baseline files when it does a Get, so it doesn't have to refetch the entire file the next time there's an update. This also helps keep track of file status.

If you just put files in the working directory the status is Unknown, since the GUI Client never fetched the files and created the cache. So you still have to do a Get Latest to resolve the Unknown file status. However . . . when I was experimenting with this in Vault 3.1.5, I found that doing a Get on just one file in each folder resolved the file status for all the files in that folder, not just the one I "got." You could experment with that.
