SoS hangs - service restart required......

Post by will » Wed Sep 21, 2005 9:03 am

We have SoS 4.1.2 (no crypto) on windows 2003 along with the latest version of VSS.

About 5 times a day, when multiple users are using SoS, all clients will suddenly be unable to connect and any process they are completing just hangs - indefinitely.

The only way we resolve this problem is by restarting the SoS windows service.

There is nothing in the logs that helps us work out what the problem is.

What is going on ???? We are becoming tempted to scrap this unreliable piece of software called SoS...!!!!!

please help

regards

In nearly all these cases, the problem is not with SOS itself, but with the SourceSafe automation component.

See this KB article for a solution:

SOS service hangs, InprocServer32 doesn't resolve it

Post by ivonder2 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 8:31 pm

We're seeing a similar issue to that described in the original post, where we have to restart the SOS service. For us, it occurs very frequently (every several minutes). We've made the change described in http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=10 (to the InprocServer32 key in the registry) and it does not resolve the issue. The system resources on the machine where the SOS service is running are at less than 5% for memory and processor. When we use SOS one user at a time we have no issues.

We're currently finding the system completely unusable as a result of this issue...

Any suggestions?

Please send me a copy of the SOS log.txt file from the SOS Server directory. I'd also like a copy of the sossvr.prp file from the same directory. Email them to linda at SourceGear.com. Be sure to include a link to this forum post.

These files may hold clues to the problem.
