How Can I Decrease The Size of The VSS Database?

Post by Martin » Tue Jun 07, 2005 8:49 am

We've got a project history starting in March 2001. Is there a way I could delete all versions older then - let's say - July 2004?

If not, what can I do to reduce the size of the VSS database?

It's close to 4 GB now and we'd like to stick to the habit of backing it on a single DVD.

Thanks in advance!

This is a VSS issue, but I can help. You can use the Archive function in the VSS Admin Tool. When you archive a VSS database, you can choose to archive a version range. The option is "Archive this version and older." During the archive process, you can archive off the older versions and delete them from the database.

Check VSS Admin Help for the Archive Database section.

I'm one of the offsite workers, so I don't deal with VSS directly. Thank you for your advise :D ! I'll forward it to our admin.

Best Wishes
