Using Vault 2.6
I just restored my workstation from backup, reset the working folder the vault client, and while the client app shows that my files are checked out , it shows the status as as unkown. So now I'm worred --- I don't want to loose the changes that I've made to my working copies. What's the next in the process of restoring a developers workstation.

In Vault 3.0, the Unknowns get resolved, but unfortunately not in 2.0.6.
When you do a fresh Get from Vault, it will overwrite (and backup) all the Unknown files (in 2.0.6), so you'll want to either choose a new working folder, or copy your existing files elsewhere before the Get.
Then, invoke a folder diff tool and select the working folder and the saved files, and move just the modified files into working folder. Then they will be marked as edited.
Sorry this is a pain - in fact, this is why we made it easier in 3.0
