Hello every one,

1. i want to ask the internal structure of the VSS database?
2. How VSS stores the files, folders in database?
3. Exact format of the VSS database?
4. Physical location of database?

VSS is a Microsoft product, not a Sourcegear product. If you would like details of the inner workings of VSS, you should contact them. With that out of the way, Sourcegear doesn't know all of the intimate details of VSS's storage mechanisms, as we use the VSS automation component to interface with the VSS database.

Do you want to know about Visual SourceSafe or Vault?

VSS stores data in a "flat" file system. I believe you can create or move a VSS database anywhere on your local drive.

Vault stores source files in BLOBS in an MS SQL Server database. Vault also stores "deltas," or file changes, and information about users, rights, versions, repositories, folders, labels, etc.

A Vault database (sgvault) needs to be on the same LAN as your Vault Server, but it doesn't have to be on the same machine.

Let me know if you still have questions about this.
