Import From one repository to another

Post by cnasr » Wed Feb 09, 2005 10:11 am

I have recently made a new repository, and I would like to import a section of my old repository into it, as I do not want to lose any of my comments and versions.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance,

chris

There isn't a way to move files or folders from one repository to another. We've had requests for this and it's in the feature request database. I'll add your "vote."

Right now, the only way to move files would be to do a get from one repository and add those files/folders to the new repository. They'd all be at version one with no history, though.

Yes! Repository transfer capability needed!

I'll definitely second that vote. I just encountered that problem upgrading from v2 to v3 where I wanted to put v3 on a different server so as not to disturb the in-use v2 Vault server until v3 was ready to go. We had to be very careful that we wouldn't get burned by the loss of history in the source control when I moved the codebase over.

This is an important feature....

We have a large codebase and we branch with every release. We need a way to put the historical data from old branches into a separate repository, so this is a pretty important feature.

Yes, this is a top priority for us after the 3.1 release (which is focused on support for Whidbey/2.0 framework). It will be in the next major release after 3.1.
