Using Vault 2.0.6 and 3.0.2 from single workstation

I'm a consultant - one of my clients uses Vault 2.0.6, while in my own company we'll be setting up a 3.0.2 installation (or whatever the latest is at that time).

My laptop needs to be able to access both systems (not at the same time).

How should this be handled? Can I just use the 3.x client to access to 2.0.6 server, or would that be asking for trouble?

Can I install both clients side by side on the laptop? If so, how would Visual Studio integration work? (I don't particularly care about VS integration, so no biggie if it'd have to be turned off).
