Change checkin comment for old version

We have a need to modify the existing comments on older file versions to repair people's mistakes in typing the comment (we use part of the comment for generating work metrics)

Is there a means of doing this through the GUI tool, the command line tool, or even through the .NET API?

The next version of Vault (3.0 due out in a couple of weeks) will include the ability to edit checkin comments from the History Details dialog.
