Hi
We had to move Server Manager to a new server (windows server 2008R).
We installed the server from the msi we got a few years ado (5.0.3)
The Visual Source save was also moved to the new server. The program and the client were installed successfuly and vss client works OK.
We setup the SOS server database by browsing to the sourcesafe.ini and gave it a name.
We created a new key and was able to import it to SOS Client on a laptop.
After connection we get the following message
The server was unable to connect to the SourceSafe database.
Check your server's log file for additional information.
In the log file we found:
015-02-25 13:22:07,026 - XXXX is attempting to listen for connections on secure port 15600
2015-02-25 13:22:07,026 - XXXX is attempting to listen for connections on unsecure port 8080

2015-02-25 13:22:07,026 - Waiting for a connection....secure = True
2015-02-25 13:22:11,753 - Connection accepted from nn.nn.nn.nn:15479 on local address 192.168.40.19:nnnnnn, session id is 1.
2015-02-25 13:22:12,206 - 1: Exception during Login: The SourceSafe database path E:\Technology\Sourcesafe does not exist. Please select another database.
2015-02-25 13:22:12,206 - 1: The SourceSafe database path E:\Technology\Sourcesafe does not exist. Please select another database.
2015-02-25 13:22:12,221 - 1: VSS database closed for the session id 1.
--------------------------
We have tried to edit the database in the SM properties to point the the correct folder which is E:\Shares\Technology\Sourcesafe but the error in the log is still the same E:\Technology\Sourcesafe does not exists. We tried to \\xxxxx\Technology\sourcesafe but did not help either and it is showing the E:\Technology\SourceSafe does not exists. We checked permission of SOS and they are OK for these folders.
What is going on? How can solve this isse?
Thanks
Moshe
The SourceSafe database path does not exists

Re: The SourceSafe database path does not exists
Which VSS automation component are you running? Details on how to find that are here: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=1510.
Do you have a VSS client installed on the SOS machine? That is what will contain the VSS automation component.
Does the account that SOS runs under have read/write access to the VSS folder? To find the account SOS runs under, go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Service. Right-click the SourceOffSite service and select Properties. Then click on the Log On tab. There it will list the account being used.

Re: The SourceSafe database path does not exists
Thank you for replying to this ticket.
The version of is ssapi.dll is 8.0.50727.42
VSS Client is installed on the SOS machine (where the server manager is)
The account under which SOS run under is Local System which should have all the needed permissions.
-------------------
Where does SOS saves the path to the server (assuming the error message is not about security which I understand can still be the issue)
Thanks
Moshe
