Help files not displaying help

Post by btd » Fri Sep 19, 2014 8:09 am

I have a server that does not have Vault on it.
I copy the userGuide.chm from a vault installation to my server that does not have Vault on it.
The file opens but when I click on any detail link, the information panel on the right is blank.
The file is not blocked.
What can I do?
Thanks

BTD

Sorry.. Problem solved. *.CHM files can't be accessed from network shares. When I copied locally it worked!

Is your machine running Windows 7? If so, Windows 7 may have blocked the CHM file for security reasons, or Windows 7 doesn't have the Help support files it needs to display standalone CHM files. (Note: This issue is unique to standalone CHM files on Windows 7.)

Let's try the security fix first:

1. Go to the Vault installation directory, and locate the CHM file, show the Properties of the file.
2. On the General tab, to the right of Security, click Unblock.
3. Click OK.
4. Re-open the CHM file. You should now see the content within the CHM file.

If that didn't work, it's likely that the you need to download the support files.

Follow the instructions here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607,
to download the Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) for Windows 7.
