Emergency: Vault Clients hang on startup

Post by mdavies » Mon May 13, 2013 12:36 pm

We have Vault Professional 6.1.0.30531
I have perhaps 20 developers using it.
At least half of them are currently stuck, because when they launch their Client, it hangs indefinitely at the point of "downloading repository information from the server".
Repository tree structure shows in left pane. File list shows in right pane.
Main menu bar functions are mostly grayed out.
function pane at bottom seems functional.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT HAPPENING TO ALL USERS; SEEMS TO AFFECT A RANDOM SET OF USERS, BUT ONCE AFFECTED, A USER IS STUCK.

Users can only quit the client by destroying it with the task manager.
Rebooting doesn't help.

Please assist.

Could you check your Vault Server Log for errors or post it here? That log is found at %windir%\temp\sgvault\sgvault.log.

I sent the server logs in relation to another topic, having to do with the "Find" function not working.
It appears that the procedure for "clearing client cache" corrects this problem, at least temporarily.
However, clearing client cache doesn't seem like a sustainable solution, and so we would still like to find out how prevent this sort of problem in the future.

The thing that can cause cache errors is being interrupted during an update. For example, if any of the network equipment has a temporary interruption during the time that a Vault client is updating the cache, it can leave the cache in an unresolvable state.
