Help!

This is all w/ Vault 2.0.6

I can do things in the client, such as request history, or delete a file using the context menu, but then nothing happens. Or at least nothing happens for a really long time like 10 or 15 minutes.

This seems to happen a lot in the Vault Client where there is no obvious indication that something is going on, or that an operation is in progress. Frequently the Vault Client gets completely unresponsive to the point that it takes minutes (or longer) to redraw itself.

Whereas what I am currently trying to do isn't a daily use scenario, I was actually expecting to have to do it weekly and this behaviour would make that impossible.

Here's what's going on:

I'm evaluating Vault as a VSS replacement. I intend to also evaluate Perforce and Seapine Surround SCM.

After some issues (resolved with a lot of excellent support from Jeremy Sheeley at SourceGear) I have succeeded in getting our SourceSafe database imported into Vault. We have just over 20,000 files and 900 folders.

My next objective is to check in to Vault all the changes that have happened in SourceSafe since the version that was imported into Vault. I expect Vault to help make this a relatively painless process.

To do this I set the Vault working folder (and set vault to put the _sgvault info into the working folder) and did a get latest version of the whole project.

Then I ran a script that deleted all of the files I just got (but none of the _sgvault files) so that the Vault client reported every file as "Missing".

Next I did a get latest version from SourceSafe into the directory that was the Vault's working folder.

I have Vault set up to not require a checkout before checkin, which seemed like the right way to go for this task.

So now the Vault client has a huge number of files (probably close to 20,000) in the pending change set, as most files now have a status of "Edited". Now the majority of these files aren't really modified, and I expect that when I commit Vault will recognize this. However I haven't gotten to the commit step yet.

I now have 2 other classes of files to deal with before I commit. I have all of the files that have been deleted in the SourceSafe DB and all of the files that have been added. (Some of the added files may actually be moves, but I don't have an easy way to identify those).

So first I am going to deal with the deleted files. I use the Status Search to locate all files that are "Missing" as I want to delete all of these.

This is where I am now. I can see a slew of Missing files, but it is taking 10 to 15 minutes to delete each one. There are approximately 120 of them (There doesn't seem to be any indication of how many files are in the Status Search window (or of when a status search is underway or complete for that matter!).

MIke,

As we're already talking offline, I'll contact you to try to work out these issues.
