Vault not automatically checking out on edit

Hi, in VS, under "tools->options->source control-> integration options" I have 'automatically check out' selected in the dropdown.
When I edit a sourcefile, the lock icon (in solution explorer) changes to a flag, but DOESN'T CHECK OUT THE FILE.
Also, in the "Vault Pro pending changes" dialogue, it doesn't show the flagged file.
Bug?
I have under "tools->options->source control" "sourcegear vault professional visual studio enhanced client" selected in the dropdown.

In your Vault Tools - Options - Concurrent Development Style, what are your settings?
