Move and Upgrade from SQL 2000 to 2008 version 5.0.3.18802

Should I upgrade the install on the server to the latest version, and then migrate from SQL 2000 to 2008? Have any issues been reported with the SQL upgrades for Vault install that you can point me to?

I haven't seen any problems with upgrading the SQL Version.

You will want to make sure you backup your sgvault and sgmaster databases (and sgdragnet if on Vault Pro).

Upgrading to Vault 5.1.2 would be a good idea as well. I don't think it will make a difference which you do first.
