I have been quite happily running a (free) single-user Vault 3.5.1 for some time on a Windows XP PC using a SQL Server 2005 Express database.
I recently upgraded (using the recommended Microsoft route of saving the data elsewhere, clean installing and then restoring the data) this machine to Windows 7 Pro (and also SP1). The database is up and running (same database version).
However, on trying to run VaultServer_3_5_1.msi, I got the IIS Version 5.00 or greater is required error. Having found this in your KnowledgeBase, I tried the recommended alternative of running it from the Command Prompt as Administrator. This gets past this error, but then fails with Error 1606. Could not access network location %systemroot%\inetpub\wwwroot\. The directory c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ does exist...
What are my options now, bearing in my that I have a valid database whose contents I don't want to lose or damage?
TIA, Kevin

Re: Cannot Install Vault Server On Windows 7 Upgrade
Vault 3.5 is not supported on Windows 7.
We would recommend you upgrade to Vault 5.1.1, the latest version. It is still free for a single user.
The challenge here is that since you are on an older version of Vault, we usually recommend that you upgrade stages. However Vault 4.x is not supported on Windows 7 either.
Please review this before you upgrade:

You could try upgrading directly, or find another machine or VM with XP, for instance, to restore your database to, and run the upgrade there.
Be sure you back up your database before trying any of these.
Another possibility is that you could try installing Vault 4.x to see if the installer updates the database. There are some configuration issues that may prevent Vault 4.x from working on Windows 7, but installer might still upgrade the database.

Re: Cannot Install Vault Server On Windows 7 Upgrade
I have now returned to this to try to sort it out. I have installed the XP PC Mode onto this machine now, but when I try to install my original Vault installation on it it now complains about being unable to find the correct version of the .NET Runtime.
Which version of .NET do I need for Vault Server 3.5.1?

Re: Cannot Install Vault Server On Windows 7 Upgrade
Vault 3.5.1 was supported on the .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0.
