Backup VSS Database While SOS Server Running

Post by darrylbooth » Fri Jul 02, 2004 10:50 am

We're evaluating SOS Professional Ver 402. The setup and initial experience has been great!

I asked our network admin to pay special attention to the VSS database backup last night and, sure enough, two files were excluded from backup:

data\rights.dat
data\status.dat
data\names.dat

I was affraid that the SOS service might keep some files open even when no users are logged in.

What is the best practice for backing up the VSS database while the SOS Server is running?

Thanks in advance.

With SOS 4.0, the only way is the stop the SOS Server Service during a backup.

You can do this through the command line:

To start and stop the SOS 4.0 Server Service from a command prompt, type: Net Start sossvrsvc.net or Net Stop sossvrsvc.net.
