I am checking in a file (it will be revision 2), when I get the following error in the Message pane of Vault GUI Client:
Item $/[path]/Filename.vb caused the transaction to fail: An item with the same name or object id already exists in the selected folder.
[6/2/2010 12:20:18 PM] Transaction failed
Is this telling me the collision is on the server? Or on my client? I don't know how either one could happen. I checked out the file, made some edits, and am now checking it back in.
I am running version 5.0.2.18753 of both Vault client and server. Client is in an XP virtual machine. Other checkins today have worked fine.

Re: Checkin failure - item already exists
Are you working in Visual Studio with the Vault integrated, or do you use them separately, or do you jump back and forth between ways of working with them?
Look in your pending check-ins. Do you see a pending add for that file?

Thank you Beth, that was the problem. I had a pending file add for that same file.
