Hi,
Im currently running the last release of vault v4 and want to use v5 for *some* projects but cannot upgrade all due to certain customer restrictions.
can i install and run v5 client alongside v4 client? this is a client only question, the v4 server is in a different location to the v5 one.
Can i install v4 and v5 side by side?

It's not a configuration we test, but here's what you can do to get started.
1) Install Vault 4.x.
2) Take the folder Vault 4.x was installed to and moved it to a different location on the disk.
3) Install Vault 5.x.
Vault 5 will take over the short-cuts, so you will need to run Vault 4 from the folder it's located in, or create your own short-cuts. Also, Vault 5 will get the integration with VS. If you require that both integrate with VS, then you may want to try a registry switcher or SCC switcher. Just running an internet search for SCC switcher should get you a few options.

thanks for the info, that sounds ideal. i only need v4 to be there to connect to *legacy* projects anyway.
i take it v5 cant open, read and write to/from a v4 repository?
