Deleted File

Post by pjsulin » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:54 am

I'm using 4.1.2.

Today when I opened my Solution I file in one of my projects was gone, well sort of. It was gone from my machine and when I looked at the repository from the classic client on my machine it was no longer in the repository. However, from a different machine it was still being shown in the repository- restart all clients and still one is showing the file is gone the other is showing it there. So I look at the history and see the creation, check-in times, etc. I don't know if the history will show deletions, but there were none there. So I can see this files history and when I go to undelete it in the properties of the folder, guess what, nothing is there. I have never obliterated a folder or file and in this case did not even delete it.

How does a file have a history, is no longer in the repository or on my machine, and yet has not been deleted?

Also, how can two separate clients show the same repository as having different contents?

It's possible the delete action is in the Pending Change set and not yet committed to the repository. But the client view has changed as though the action is complete.

The client side cache may be different, and one may be out of sync with the repository. Deleting the client-side cache may be necessary to get things back in sync. Close any open clients first.
