We label folders in our repository for code inspections on a regular basis so that we can easily see what's change between now and our previous inspection. We'd like to call the label "Inspection" because that's what it is, but it has to be unique, so we have to call it "Inspection 9130", or "Inspection 2009-10-02" or something.
Also, labels are expensive, so periodically we go delete old labels that don't matter anymore, because we don't care that we inspected a folder twice in September of 2005 at this point.
Both of these problems could be solved if we were allowed to call all inspection labels "Inspection," and instead of yelling at us that the name isn't unique, Vault would erase the old label and create a new one with the same name.

Re: Sliding label
I logged feature request 12714 for Vault to prompt to delete an old label if it has the same name as a new label you're applying
