vault client crashes just after successfull login. XP SP3, .net 2.0,3.5 been working for two years then suddenly it's gone.
I can't spend time getting to my "trusted" source control program - my memory stick works better now.
this other post may be related but the result is scary, because there is no fix!

Re: vault client crashes just after successfull login
Does the program just close or does it give an error?
Are there errors in your Event Viewer? If so, can you copy those here?
Can you reach http://<your vaultserver>/vaultservice/vaultweb fine? Can you log in from a browser or does it give an error?

Re: vault client crashes just after successfull login
Nope, http://192.168.3.8/vaultservice/vaultweb does not work, no event or error messages reported.
The url doesn’t work on the other three computers where vault client does work (3.5.1(4786)).
None of the clients have a vault web services installed.
The appdir has 2GB+ of hidden readonly folders.
I think it is failing when it tries to write to this directory. I’m going to run spinright to check the hard disk.
Then I want to uninstall vault client and remove the app directories and all temp files and registry.
What’s the reg key to fully remove? if I reinstall I don’t want any left over pointers.

Re: vault client crashes just after successfull login
The best thing to do is to either run the Windows Installer Clean-up utility and/or backup your registry and run a search for the word SourceGear and remove any entries related to that. If you name your machine or anything important "SourceGear," then you will need to be cautious to not remove those items. What’s the reg key to fully remove? if I reinstall I don’t want any left over pointers.

Re: vault client crashes just after successfull login
If I keep trying to login, and select my repository over and over sometimes it will work.
But not after about ten tries.
I'm online, everything else is working. My Mcaffe virus software is running and the scan does not report any problems.
heck this is really becomming a pain to attemp vault logins over and over and hope it finally works

Re: vault client crashes just after successfull login
I'm assuming you already did an uninstall and reinstall that you said you wanted to do?
It is possible that the Vault files are being scanned and then it won't let Vault run until it's finished. That might explain why after enough attempts you can suddenly get in. Is it possible for you to turn off your firewall and your anti-virus just to see if that makes a difference? You can turn it right back on after checking.
Can you check for a Vault client log? That would be found under C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp on Vista and is called VaultGUIClient.txt. Are there any errors or warnings in that log?
A web browser, with nothing special being installed, should be able to find Vault. Can you reach http://192.168.3.8/vaultservice?Nope, http://192.168.3.8/vaultservice/vaultweb does not work, no event or error messages reported.
That is your client-side cache. If Vault is prevented from writing there, then it won't work properly. If you want less data in the cache, I can give instructions on how to make that smaller, but first, we should get Vault running right before worrying about the cache size. The appdir has 2GB+ of hidden readonly folders.
