Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client

Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
The fortress client is very slow when saving a file even if it is already checked out. Takes from 10-20 secs and is really slowing me down. Happens in any file .vb .cs .aspx .ascx etc.
Is it chatting with the server or something? Maybe you could start a new thread instead of blocking?
Any options I can disable for this?
I changed to the classic client and everything ran at normal acceptable speed.
But the classic client is missing the "relate to bug" dialog. Meaning I can't use it, it might miss other functions aswell I'm not sure.
Also, why isn't the enhanced client showing the project tree structure in the pending window like the classic client? The treeview is much better!
Thanks in advance.

Richard Dawson Funke

Re: Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
We're not sure why it would be taking so long to save a file using the Enhanced Client. Are there specific steps to reproduce this? Or do you just edit a file and use the File->Save command or Cntrl-S?
We might know more if we could see a log file:
To enable client-side logging for the client or in Visual Studio, see this KB article

Reproduce the problem and send me a copy of the log. Send the log zipped up to support at sourcegear.com, Attn: Linda. Please include a link to this forum post.
In our next version, Vault 5.0, there will be a tree view in the Commit dialog. Vault 5.0 is currently in Beta1.

Yes it is as simple as checking out a file and saving it, it happens every time.
This last save took about 40 secs. I sent you the log now.
The classic client works fine though.
When will Vault 5.0 be released? Will there be a Fortress version for it as well?

Re: Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
Just to update anyone else with a simillare problem, I hade a couple of thousand files checked out.
So I checked them in and now it runs fine again.

Re: Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
Thanks for the forum update. We've made a lot of improvements on how Vault/Fortress handle checkoutlists, but having thousands of files checked out can still affect performance, since Vault/Fortres has to review/refresh checkout lists frequently to keep the file list up to date.

Re: Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
I have had to turn off the VS integration because everytime I make a change to an item in the web design view or html source view or save or do anything I have to wait for some process to finish. I have noticed at times it says in the status bar it is refreshing source control items. It can take up to 20 seconds sometimes, at other times, like moving a label from one cell to another it pauses for 2-3 seconds. As soon as I turned off the integraton everything is nice and speedy. I really hope these issues are fixed in the next release.
This happens wheter I have 1 file checked out or 20 files.

Re: Slow performance in VS2008 Fortress Enhanced Client
Do other users have a lot of files checked out in the repository? The checkout issue extends to the entire checkout list, not an individual user's checkouts.
