Spurious blank folders appearing in repository list

Post by richtebb » Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:30 am

I'm running Vault 4.1.0 (46216) and seeing a strange problem since installing XP SP3 this morning in a Virtual PC. Several blank (unnamed) folders appear in the repository list that seem to be duplicates of their parent. Perhaps the attached image will explain better than I can. Note that the name of the highlighted folder ends in a double slash. Also note that the contents of the highlighted folder are the same as those of its parent. There are multiple such spurious folders throughout the repository list.

This seems to be a client-side problem because my non-virtual PC displays the repository structure correctly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Vault, but some information is obviously persisted, since it remembered my profiles on reinstall. Perhaps a complete uninstall would fix this, but I don't know what to clear out.

There is one further clue that I can add. Perhaps rashly in hindsight, I started the Vault client during the SP3 install (I was only intending to view so I didn't think any harm could come). While starting up, Vault displayed several Object variable not set messageboxes, which re-appeared every time I cancelled them. I eventually had to terminate Vault through the Task Manager.

I wonder if anyone has seen this problem before - I couldn't find anything by searching?

Update - fixed by resetting the local repository cache. I accidentally answered my own question in my original post - "some information is obviously persisted" - just a question of working out what information and where.

Thanks for the update on your situation. The information would most likely be in your Client Side Cache. It sounds like something may have been scanning or changing one of the parent Windows folders that the cache falls under and that could have prevented it from updating correctly.
