Add new file in VS2008 hangs

We have just upgraded to Vault version 4+ from 3+. Now, in Visual Studio 2008, when I go to add a new file to my project, it seems to hang for about 30 seconds, then successfully creates the file. This happens for each file I add, not just once. Lets say I have 3 new code files to create, whether I do this all at one time, or over the course of 30 minutes, this does not alter the behavior, it always hangs for the same amount of time.

On a positive note, everything else seems to work much faster.

We did not have the problem in version 3, so it must be something that is new with version 4. Are there any known reasons for why this could be happening? Thanks.

This is a known issue in large solutions. About how many files are in the solution that exhibits this problem?

*edit* just checked the actual number, 1837 files in 18 projects inside of the solution.

That's a pretty brutal delay for a solution that's big, but certainly not huge. Let me do some more digging on the status of this issue and get back to you.

thanks for the help! Oh, and I just timed it exactly, 37 seconds to add an aspx file to the web project.
