Whidbey Compatability

I am currently a MSDN Subscriber and I am looking at using Vault for source control. However, I am wary of purchasing a license now that will not work with the next version of the IDE (Whidbey). How would you suggest I proceed. :?:

Will you be the only user? You do not need a license to use Vault as a single user.

If you plan to buy multiple licenses, I suggest you also purchase Gold Support, which will give you free upgrades for a year. Yes, there is an additional cost, but even then, Vault is a good value and less expensive than other version control tools.

We do plan to support integration with Whidbey by the time that Whidbey is official released. We may offer support for pre-release Whidbey builds, but no guarantees.

If you want to use source code control, why wait for Whidbey? SourceGear is continually adding features and enhancing performance in Vault, so you'd most likely want to upgrade as we offer new releases.

There will be 2 developers to start but we will be moving to 3 or 4 within a few months.

As to why I would wait for Whidbey to get source control - I am not waiting - I have VSS but  , alas I am in CT and my fellow developers are in PA so we need a source control solution that works over the web without the need for the chronically cumbersome VPN.

I would like to try out Vault's ability to handle source control over the internet but the free license would not allow me to test this function would it?

Vault works over the Internet with the free license, but that's for just one user.

If you'd like to test Vault with your development team, try our free 30-day demo. It's the fully functioning product. Download from our website at:

http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/downloads.asp

The demo license for 5 users/ 30 days is available from that link as well.
