Folder Differences (Vault 4.1.1)

Post by BankZ » Sun May 04, 2008 9:18 am

I am new to Vault (testing it out) and I cant figure one thing out.

When I do a diff on a folder it generates a list of things that are different. However, I do not see a way to act on this list. For example, delete files that are on my computer and not in VSS. Also it would be nice to be able to add things that are missing from source control.

Am I missing something or is this just a gap in Vault and VSS?

You can select a line that shows two items being different and then go to File - View File Diff. Of course, that doesn't give you some of the functionality you want, such as being able to delete an entire file from the side that shows it as the only one having it. I can put in a feature request if you wish.

(Vault 4.1.2)

Any progress on this?

During our evaluation of SGV we were surprised to find this feature missing. It is one of the features that we use all the time in VSS:

Do a recursive diff.
Find files and folders not yet in the vault, and then add them.
Find files and folders we no longer require and remove them from vault.

This exact functionality isn't available yet. However, you can enable "ghosted" files and folders in the file list and repository tree, so it is quite easy to see what items are not yet under source control. This option is in the GUI client under Tools-> options-> General.
