Folder MachineKeys loses Administrator permission

Post by rubenmch » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:08 pm

After installing fortress the Administrator users no longer have permission to access the folder

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys

This affects other applications that need to create keys such as Visual Studio when creating new keys to sign assemblies.

We will look into it. I just need a little more information.

Did you install the Client or Server (or both) on that machine? Is this Fortress 1.1.1?

What operating System are you using?

I installed Fortress 1.1.1 in the following operating systems:

Windows Vista Ultimate : Client And Server

Windows 2000 Professional : Server only

the problem happened on both computers after installation.

So far we haven't been able to reproduce this in house. The existing permissions remain unchanged after the install on the machines we have tested.

How are you logged onto the machine during the install process (as "Administrator" or as another user)? Is this an upgrade from a previous version of Fortress or is this the first time you installed it?

On Windows Vista Ultimate:

Logged in as another user belonging to the Administrators group (User Account Control turned off) (Vault Client 3.1 simultaneously installed, never installed any version of Vault or Fortress server before, only the client of Vault 3.1)

On Windows 2000 Professional:

Logged in as Administrator, first time installation never installed any version of Vault or Fortress before.

We are still trying to reproduce this. Can you send me the fortress_install.log located in your %temp% directory? That way I can see exactly how you installed the server so we can choose the same options as you did and also see if there were any problems reported. You can send it to maryjo at sourcegear dot com.
