Unfortunately, with 65 GB of data to delete from a VSS import, this isn't terribly surprising. Obliterate is still slower than we'd like.

Is there data that you care about in this Vault database, or was this an import into a fresh installation? It would be far easier to simply re-install vault and get a fresh database, if that's an option.

One of the projects in Vault is 'live'.

Is it possible to back it up so it can be restored safely when I have a new blank Vault database available?

I don't want to lose the history of changes made.

Thanks

While that feature is slated for the Vault 4.0 release, there is unfortunately no way to archive/restore arbitrary folders in a Vault repository today.

Do you happen to have a backup of Vault's database before the VSS import?

We have the source in Visual SourceSafe.

Is there data (particularly history) that you care about in Vault that is not in SourceSafe?

If not, I'd recommend re-installing the Vault server, choosing to remove the existing database.

Before trying again with an import, it may be helpful to review this (if you haven't already) to help ensure a success: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=7
In particular, you'll want to only import labels if you really need them.

Finally, select only the projects for import for which you need all the history, to avoid the enormous database that you've got now. Note that if history isn't required, you can simply check-in the latest code rather than importing from VSS.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips.

There is history in Vault and I'd rather not lose it if possible?

On next import:

I want to have some recent history in Vault, therefore I will try and import just the last 5. I tried 214 labels last time.

Let me know if 5 is unrealistic.

Without a backup prior to the import that added 65 GB, there's no good way to keep the history you've got in Vault now, I'm sorry to say.

Importing just 5 labels should be reasonable.
