I am a little disappointed with Vault 3.0 (Beta) because it looks and feels like hardly anything has changed. I expect software for developers to empower. A couple of things in my wishlist are:
* In the client GUI, when I double-click on a file it opens it in an editor. This is not something I often - if ever - want to do. The action I almost always want to perform is "Check out". At the very least it would be nice to configure the double-click action
* I am using Vault for a Java project. Like most Java projects I have a ton of directories for my source files. It is cumbersome finding the right folder and file to check out. Here the search facility could be improved.
* Search is good, but a bit mysterious. If I want to find a file called "ABCDEFGHIJKLM.java" I have to click on the root of the folders I want to search, and then spell the filename correctly in its entirety or use a wildcard. Ideally I would just type "AB" and a list would instantly appear of all files starting with "AB" no matter where they are in the file structure. As I add more letters the list continues to get filtered. By default the whole repository is searched. For performance reasons, the client GUI would maintain a cache of all filenames.
