Hi -
I'm using SOS 3.5.3 with Visual Studio .NET 2003. When I open a solution file in VS, it takes FOREVER to get all the filelists, even if they are already on my machine from a recent GetLatestVersion thru the SOS UI. There are 174 projects, but it takes over 3 hours before I can start to do any work in VS. Is this normal? What could be the bottleneck?

SOS still retrieves the file lists, even though you have the files locally. If the file versions are current (status=blank), it doesn't get the file again.
File list retrieval is one of the slowest operations in SOS, since so much communication is being done through the SourceSafe Automation component (a bottleneck). In addition, opening the project with Visual Studio adds to the time, as the IDE adds its own overhead.
The number of projects you have is not small. How many total files in this solution?
One thing that really slows down SOS and VSS is real time anti-virus protection on the SOS Server machine. Could that be a factor in your case?
