Vault Client 5.1.1 on Windows 10

Post by scaiferw » Fri Jan 12, 2018 7:38 am

Good Morning;

The compatibility chart references the Vault server, but not the Vault client.

Is the Vault 5.1.1 (19215) client compatible with Windows 10?

We haven't tested the Vault 5.x client on Windows 10. If you can install the 2.0 .NET framework, then I would think it would be ok.

Thanks Beth.

I may be able to make the case for upgrading to 10.x, but I have couple of questions;

1) The upgrade guide suggests that no intermediate install upgrades are required to go from v5.12 to v10.x. Can we go directly from 5.1.1 to v10x? If not, what is the recommended intermediate upgrade?

2) If we do need to do an intermediate upgrade on the back end, can we do the client upgrade in one shot?

We are currently on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2, so we don't seem to have any compatibility issues.

Thanks,
Rob

I have been recommending putting in Vault 6.1 and then making the leap, but there were a few tests with Vault 5 and I have customers that upgraded from Vault 5. I edited the Upgrading Guide to go from 6. Since you don't appear to need other changes, I think you're safe. Make sure you make a back up of your Vault databases (sgvault, sgmaster, and possibly sgdragnet [vaultpro]).

The client definitely can be upgraded in one shot from any version.

Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 are fine.

Do we have to upgrade client and back end at the same time?

If not, which do we have to do first?

Thanks,

Rob

Yes, the client and server need to happen before then can work together. The most common way is to upgrade the server, check that you can login via the web browser, and then upgrade the clients and test.

OK, thanks. That's going to be a challenge, as we package our applications for automated distribution within our WAN. The packaging and testing process takes place before we distribute, so upgrading client and back-end at the same time will be something of a challenge.

If you upgrade, then Vault 10 client will run on Windows 10 without adding the 2.0 .NET framework.

If the issue you mention is just the coordination of the client roll-out, then you might want to perform the server upgrade outside of business hours. You have full maintenance paid for, so feel free to send me an email at support at sourcegear.com and I can help further with your upgrade.
