Trouble moving to new SQL server

Post by Ascendo » Tue Apr 11, 2017 4:28 am

Hi everyone

I inherited a very old install of Vault (5.0.1.18729!) and we attempted to move the SQL database (650GB) to a new server today (from 2012 to 2016). We updated the \web.config to point to the new server and all looked OK, but we noticed after a while that some of our shadow folders weren't being updated.

We also restarted IIS, rebooted the server etc to no avail, and in the end failed back to the original SQL Server, after which everything returned to normal.

Two questions:

1) Any ideas what could have happened and how we can fix it?
2) What's involved in upgrading such an old version to v9?

Thanks

A

Vault 5.0.1 isn't supported on SQL 2012 nor SQL 2016. That is listed in our Compatibility Chart.

There are additional steps besides updating the web.config file. The db_owner needs to be set. Use the KB article posted here for instructions: viewtopic.php?t=924.

All details regarding upgrading can be found in our Upgrading Guide.

Thanks for the information. We did successfully run it on SQL2012 for nearly 4 years so we're hoping it's a case of "not supported but may work".

I don't know if anyone tried it or not here. I don't know if it would work or not.
