Vault Support for VS 2015
Vault Support for VS 2015
We are on Vault 7.1 getting ready to upgrade to 8.0.1.
We are also going to Visual Studio 2015. We were told VS2015 will be available sometime this summer.
Question: What version of Vault supports VS2015?
Thanks
BTD

Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
We will offer full support after VS 2015 has a final release. For now, we just ran a couple preliminary tests against Vault 8.x, and it appears to have the base functionality there. We need to run more testing after we can get the final VS 2015 version.

Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
As I am reviewing moving to 2015 for my company, I downloaded the latest RC just today and did a round of testing with Vault Standard. As far as I can tell, everything works great with the following caveat and exception that I discovered in my testing:
Caveat: While attempting to "Open From Vault" a VS 2010 Solution file, the process failed. However, I created a Branch of this solution, migrated the branch to 2015 RC and committed the change, then attempted once more and it opened flawlessly.
Exception: When checking out a file, making a change, and doing a "Commit All" on the file with the "Keep checked out" option toggled, the files still showed in the "Vault Pending Changes" window as if the changes were not actually committed. After repeating the above without the keep checked out toggled, everything worked as normal and the files no longer showed up in this window.
Tests
Cheers,
Matthew

Tests
- Open From Vault (2010 project, and migrated 2015 RC branch).
- Exclusive Check Out; Commit All.
- Check Out; Commit All (with keep checked out).
- Undo Check Out (with Revert).
- All Icons appear as usual, though with different coloring matching the VS theme.
Cheers,
Matthew
Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
Thank you for the information.
Caveat on switch from VS 2010 to VS 2015. VS needs to make changes to the files, so the files need to be checked out prior to having VS update them. Some users find it easier to unbind with VS 2010, then upgrade to VS 2015, and then rebind.
Exception on "Keep checked out": The files should still show in the pending change set because they are checked out. That is expected behavior. Your solution to turn off that option would be the right way to go.
Locks are for VSS style and green circles are for CVS style. Your changes probably just made Vault think that was the style it was in. It doesn't harm functionality.

Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
We are testing our upgrade to VS 2015. We haven't yet upgraded Vault to v8. We're on the latest 7.x. When I install Vault 7.x, I only get the option for the classic source control client in VS 2015. It seems like I remember a similar circumstance around early releases of VS 2013, and there was a work around. Is that true? Will 7.x support 2015, or do we need to upgrade to 8 first?
Thanks,
Kevin
Thanks,
Kevin
Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
Not sure if Vault 7 would work, but it's not officially supported. I don't think that version knows to look for VS 2015.
Did you install Vault 7 after Visual Studio?

Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
VS 2015 is now out; I installed from MSDN yesterday the final build. Do I just need to uninstall / re-install Vault to get it to integrate?
Re: Vault Support for VS 2015
Since we haven't completed full testing yet, I'm not 100% sure. You might try a repair install first, and then an uninstall/reinstall if that fails. If you're still on Vault 7 though, I don't know that it knows to look for VS 2015. When I'm trying things it's with Vault 8.0.1.
