Upgrading to Version 7?

Post by mdavies » Tue Jun 24, 2014 11:35 am

Currently running Vault version 6.1 using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, 2012
SourceGear Vault Professional Visual Studio Enhanced Client.

Some developers suggest good reasons to move to Microsoft Visual Studio 2013.
However, there is an indication that SourceGear Vault Professional Visual Studio Enhanced Client is not supported in Visual Studio 2013 unless we upgrade to Vault version 7.x

So the question becomes... what is entailed in upgrading our Vault to version 7.x, and is 7.x backward compatible with Visual Studio 2010 and 2012 using Enhanced Client?
Not all of our developers may want to upgrade to Visual Studio 2013 right away.

Please advise.
Thanks!
Mick

Vault 7 is backwards compatible with most of VS. The best way to know is to check our Compatibility Chart posted here: http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/documen ... chart.html.

Your basic steps of upgrading from Vault 6 will be:
1) Backup the Vault databases.
2) Run the Vault 7.2.1 server installer.
3) Have the clients run the Vault 7.2.1 client installer.
4) Enter in your license keys into the Vault admin web page.

More details can be found in this Upgrading Guide: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic ... 13&t=19341.

OK.
Thanks very much, Beth.
We will start the ball rolling to undertake the upgrade. It's never a good idea to get too far behind the latest versions.
