Upgrading to Vault 7.0

Post by lbauer » Tue Aug 21, 2012 12:22 pm

Here are steps to upgrade to Vault Standard 7.x:

1) First, make sure your system requirements are compatible with Vault Server and Clients:

http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/documen ... chart.html

2) Get your Vault Standard 7.0 licenses so you'll have them when you start using your Vault 7.x server.

https://csp.sourcegear.com/login.aspx

3) Next, back up your Vault databases. The databases you have depend on the Vault version:

Vault 3.x and earlier -- sgvault

Vault 4.x and Vault Standard 5.x -- sgvault and sgmaster.

Vault Standard 6.x -- sgvault, sgmaster, sgvaultindex and sgnotify

4) After you back up your databases, run the Vault 7.x installer over the existing Vault Server installation. Follow the prompts. The installer will detect the existing databases and ask if you want to keep them. Click "Yes."

Installation details here: http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/documen ... index.html

5) When the Vault 7.x server is installed, your 7.x licenses will need to be configured in the Vault Admin Web Client->Server Settings->Licenses before users can log in. The Vault Admin can log in without a license.

6) Users will need to update their Vault Clients to Vault 7.x in order to log into the Vault 7.x server. To update your client, run the Vault 7.x installer over your current installation of the client.

During the installation, the Vault Standard 7.x Installer will update the VaultService directory on the local hard drive and update the Vault databases in SQL Server.

If you are upgrading from Vault 5.x or earlier

You may want to upgrade in stages: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic ... &t=11648&p

The Vault 7 installer will create the sgnotify and sgvaultindex databases and also create the VaultIndexService, VaultNotifyService and virtual directories in IIS and their corresponding folders under the IIS web root.

After installation, Find in Files indexing can be turned on in the Admin Web Client under Repository options.

To enable email notifications, configure your mail server information in Vault Admin Web Client ->Server Settings Email Settings.

Notification options are configured by the user in Vault Client options.

To troubleshoot plugin errors for Find in Files, Notifications and Shadow Folders, see this KB article:

Additional reminder:

If you are using Shadow Folders, it's a good idea to make a backup of the web.config file found in the Vault Shadow Folders Service directory prior to upgrading. The default location is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\vaultservice\vaultshadowfolder.
