Options to upgrade from 5.1.1 to 7

Post by dhagen » Thu Apr 24, 2014 1:13 pm

Can you articulate the reasons for the recommended step-wise upgrade between these two versions? Is there risk if we don't step-upgrade? Also, is there a walk-through as to installing the latest version fresh in a parallel, totally separate area of our enterprise (with a backup/restore of the dbs to another sql server)? If not, is there anything to take into account if we do this?

Thx

Dan

The recommendation to upgrade in steps is necessary in some case and in other cases it's just a precautionary measure. The difference depends on what version you are coming from. There are database changes between each major version of Vault, and sometimes a few of those versions need particular scripts run to add those changes to the databases.

In the case of Vault 5.1.x to Vault 7, no particular problems have been identified, but it's still a good precaution to install the Vault 6.1.0 server first and then the final version of 7. I think a few customers have made the leap from 5.1.x to 7.x.

We don't have any particular instructions for running a second server in parallel. If you do this, make sure you put the databases in place first before installing Vault. Also, please be aware that if check ins are made to each installation, one cannot simply merge the databases together.
