I am using SOS 4.0.2 on a PC running Win2K pro. I needed to make a revision to an old version of code, so in VSS 6 I shared the project at an old label, resulting in a new project. From SOS I branched a file, but when I tried to check it out, the checkout selection was greyed out.

I wasn't able to reproduce this, but I may be using a different version of the VSS automation component than you are. What version of VSS is installed on the SOS Server machine? Here's how to determine the version:

When you share from a label in VSS, files in the Shared To folder are pinned. You can't checkout a pinned file. However, the pin icon is not always displayed in SOS because of bugs in certain versions of the VSS automation component.

Did you refresh the file list after branching? If you look at the file history, does the file appear to be pinned?

Can you checkout the file with VSS?

The version of SSAPI.dll is 6.0.93.50

The pin icon did disappear after I branched the file.

I did not refresh the file list, and I did not look at the history.

I was able to check the file out using VSS.

The history currently does not show any pins.
