Connecting to Vault Server

Post by JeffKinzer » Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:15 am

Followed the link to problems connecting to vault server.

I am trying this out to see if it will fit my needs as a single user, and the client works against the server on the server machine, but when I try to log in with client from my laptop, I can not connect. I am not sure if I need to make firewall changes to my "server". Did a search here, and haven't had any luck.

If anyone has any thoughts on what I am might be doing wrong, or can ask me questions on how I have it setup to help me troubleshoot, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Is your laptop in the same network as the machine you have your Vault server set up on or are you outside that network?

Can you reach the Vault home page through a browser at http://<your Vault server>/vaultservice/index.html? If so, then try the actual service next at http://<your Vault server>/vaultservice/vaultservice.asmx. Does that page come up as well?

It is possible for a Windows firewall to block Vault. You might verify that by trying a test with it turned off or else make an exception for it.

Yes the laptop is on the network.. I got it working by setting up a new rule on my firewall, basically opening up incoming requests, but I am not excited about it, because it opens up everything...not sure if that will allow folks outside my house to get to that serer.

what firewall settings should I use to allow that specifically to work?

Do you have World Wide Web Services allowed through the firewall?

If you already have that allowed, what other exceptions do you have set on the firewall?

I am a bit ignorant on firewall settings, what would the exact rule name be? I've only set up two rules, and neither has to do with that.

Did you set the rule on the server or your client?

What OS is the machine you set the firewall rule on?

You should just be able to set rules to allow connections through port 80 I think. I will check further into this. I should know more late Wednesday.

Another option you could try is Enabling the World Wide Web Services that are already listed in the Inbound and Outbound areas of the Firewall rules. They are not enabled by default.
