Feature Request: Checked out files reminder and notification

Post by jfuex » Mon Apr 16, 2012 3:26 pm

One issue on our team that I think Vault could easily solve is that developers tend to check out files intending to work on them then get busy on something else and forget to check them back in or undo the checkout.

As an admin, I go in the system occasionally and undo old check-outs, but it would be useful if the system had two new features:

1) A setting such that after X days of having a file checked out you get an e-mail from the system reminding you to check the file back in if you are done with it. X would be configurable.

2) On the screen where you see checked out files and can undo checkouts for other users, it would be nice if it had a button to send an e-mail notification to the users who have the selected files checked out asking them to either check them in or undo the checkout.

I've entered the feature requests. Thank you for your feedback.

Users can also check their own check out lists through the use of the Search tab at the bottom of the Vault GUI client.

I use that feature all the time. My concern is mostly with developers who aren't so conscientious about remembering to see if they have things outstanding, thus won't use that feature to look.
