Am a new user; not expert at SQL, etc. Trying out Vault for the first time to migrate a large SourceSafe (~5gb) database.
The database transferred successfully from SourceSafe and appears to be working on both Win2000 (client) and XP (where the database server is located).
Installation was painful because the host system already had .NET but not IIS; had to back off and reload the .NET to get started.
Attempts to run the backup via the Admin tool script seem to accomplish nothing; one does the entry of the target filespec of form K:\VaultBackups\30Jan2012, selects "Backup Now", then the selection area becomes shaded but nothing more happens. Scrolling down one comes to an OK - Cancel selection with a warning about possible lengthy processing. Selecting the "OK" appears to start the script.
The Admin web client shows that the database size is 2.89gb on disc, space needed 1.57gb.
Examining the location of the backup target file shows nothing there. The Windows task manager shows no activity other then idle after the "OK" selection.
Can someone "walk" me through the backup process and explain what to expect?

Re: Backup via Admin Does Nothing
Can you open a Vault GUI client, login to the Vault server, go to Help - Technical Support and post the information from that window? That will fill in any other bits I may need to know about your setup.

Re: Backup via Admin Does Nothing
Close the backup window and then go to the default location where SQL Server places its backups. That is typically in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup. Do you see your backup there with an .sgvbak extension?
Open the Vault admin web page again and return to the backup link. Don't start it. First just see if the backup is listed there.

Re: Backup via Admin Does Nothing
Consider me embarrassed! I was trying to use a full file-spec with ":" and "/" in it; the dialog box for starting the backup says "no" for these. Sorry for the bother! With a simple backup file name it works.

Thank you for the update. I'm happy you found the root cause.
