Error with file move

I need help as I have many changes and dont want to revert. please advise.

Open vault.
files are all checked in
highlight several files and right click
select move
select folder to move to
move files
checkout files in VS
make changes
check in
receive error

Note this is a new folder. This file never existed here before. The file did exist in an old folder which I have since deleted.

[1/31/2008 11:13:50 AM] Beginning transaction
[1/31/2008 11:13:50 AM] Item $/TessituraIntegrationTemplate7.2/website/_masterpages caused the transaction to fail: An item with the same name or object id already exists in the selected folder.
[1/31/2008 11:13:50 AM] Transaction failed

Can you tell me which version of Vault you are using, and which client it is set to user in the VS Tools - Options - Source Control?

version 4.1.0 (16096)

SourceGear Vault Visual Studio 2005 Client

Note: I get this error in vault directly as well as in VS.

Ok, let's just focus on the Vault side first. So that I'm sure I understand you:
1) move the file
2) make sure the file is checked in and viewable in Vault.
3) check out the file using the Vault client.
4) edit the file (for a test, let's just try using notepad and add a comment)
5) check in the file using the Vault client.
6) Then receive error?

step 0 which goes before step 1.

I think I figured out the missing part.

File is checked into Vault.
I deleted a file while in VS.
I added a new file in VS in the same directory with the same name.
I try to check in and I get this error.

[2/1/2008 8:23:34 AM] Item $/TessituraIntegrationTemplate7.2/website/_masterpages/error.master.cs caused the transaction to fail: An item with the same name or object id already exists in the selected folder.
[2/1/2008 8:23:34 AM] Transaction failed

lets try one more time

File is checked into Vault.
I deleted a file while in VS.
I added a new file in VS in the same directory with the same name.
I try to add files to the folder in vault as they dont show up and I get this error.

This user called Support and the problem has been resolved. The deleted item was still in the pending change set, so the transaction had not been committed. We deleted all items in the pending change set, reset his client cache and he was able to get the original file he wanted.

Thanks for this writing this final summary. I received the same error when attempting to share a file, i.e.,

"An item with the same name or object id already exists in the selected folder"

When I undid several pending operations to the target folder / file the share succeeded.
