4.1.4 (18402): VS 2005 using guest account ocasionally

Post by plykkegaard » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:10 am

Hi

We're running on a 4.1 server using 4.1.4 client from Visual Studio 2005

We have created an account called "guest" for external consultants to use
Our problem is that VS 2005 is the using the guest account ocasionally for checkouts even when logged in as a different user

Should we disable the guest account and choose different names eg "cons" (for consultant)
Or do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance /Peter

I could use more information on this:
Our problem is that VS 2005 is the using the guest account ocasionally for checkouts even when logged in as a different user
Are you saying that when UserA logs into Vault with Visual Studio and does a checkout, the checkout shows up as Guest in the Vault Client?

Are your users using the same Visual Studio project from the same machine?

Yep I am logging in as myself eg userA and VS uses the user named "Guest" in some cases eg when editing files letting VS do the "automatic" checkout

This happens on our Biztalk development server
We are using the same OS user but different Vault users on the server

I am not sure wether we have touch the same files at the same time but I doubt it
During time we are checking out/in same files under different Vault users
The Guest account is used on the development server by external consultants

Thanks /Peter

We're wondering if the file may have already been checked out to Guest, and your checkout actually failed.

You can determine the checkout location of a file using the Vault GUI Client . Under Tools -> Options -> File List Columns, the enable the column for checkout location. Then the next time you see a unexpected Guest checkout, you can see the location of the checkout.

If it is checked out to your working directory, and you are the only one who ever uses this working directory, let us know, and we will troubleshoot further.

A bit delayed ...

I can confirm that when working on the server using VS 2005 and open a solution using VS menu: File -> open -> project/solution the guest are used during checkouts in most cases
If I choose the file -> vault soource control -> open from vault I am prompted for a login and my own account are used in most cases

Are multiple users working on the same machine and opening the same project?

We have moved to a new server since and the old one is used for test purposes
I have finally found the cause of the problem, when logging in as guest the user has checked the remember password flag ...
I have changed the password to avoid logging in on guest account

How do I uncheck remember password flag?
Yes we have been multiple users working on the same project but not at the same time

Thanks in advance /Peter

The auto login info is stored in a file called VSIPClientProjectSettings.xml on the client machine.

Try editing or deleting the VSIPClientProjectSettings.xml file. It's in %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\SourceGear\VsipSccClient.
